Autism Spectrum Disorder Evaluation
Service Description
Psychological and neuropsychological evaluations are available to assess for the presence of an Autism-Spectrum Disorder diagnosis. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): ASD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that can cause significant social, communication and behavioral challenges. People with ASD have difficulties with social and communication skills, and can show restricted interests/repetitive behaviors (e.g., they might repeat certain behaviors, might not want change in their daily activities, etc.). Signs of ASD begin in early childhood and typically last throughout a person’s life. ASD assessment involves: -the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, 2nd Edition (ADOS-2), which is considered the "gold standard" in ASD evaluation. -parent/guardian interview(s) -questionnaires by parent/guardian (& relevant teachers/providers) -possible neuropsychological testing (e.g., facial processing/identifying emotions on faces, "theory of mind" abilities, pragmatic language, etc.) More extensive testing is available within a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation (see "Neuropsychological Evaluation" tab).
