Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)
Service Description
An IEE is a kind of private evaluation. A parent has the right to an independent educational evaluation at the school's expense if they disagree with an evaluation obtained by their school district. Here are some reasons an IEE may be requested: -The school evaluation didn't find evidence of a disability, but you think it's wrong. -You don't think the disability your child has been diagnosed with is correct, or you think the results of the testing aren't accurate. -They did not address all areas of need in their assessment (e.g., only cognitive and academic testing, not addressing social-emotional or Autism assessment, etc.). How to request an IEE: Make a formal request by writing a letter to the school district's Special Education Director and your school's Principal indicating you disagree with the school based evaluation and are requesting an IEE at public expense. The school district will provide a list of qualified professionals in the area who complete IEEs. However, you do not need to choose from this list, as parents may choose any qualified professional. Due to my specialty training in school psychology and as a certified school psychologist in the state of Arizona, I am a qualified professional who can complete an IEE. IEE's include: Evaluations involve a review of available records (especially the school based MET/evaluation); interview of the parent/guardian, child, and school staff or other professionals familiar with the child; and psychometric testing.
